TIM makes it EASY.
Your TIM provider has pledged to make Tire Inflation Maintenance quick and easy for all TIM participants. Simply pull in to your TIM provider's place of business and they will quickly correct your air pressure and get you back on your way. Just a few minutes of our time once a month can have a dramatic impact on our economy, safety and environment.

Why you need TIM:
Tire Inflation Maintenance is the only service every vehicle needs every month. Every vehicle manufacturer, tire manufacturer and the US government tells us to correct our tire pressure at least every 30 days yet, according to AAA, less than 15% of us do. All passenger vehicle tires lose air at the rate of 1-3 psi every month through normal permeation, the process by which air bleeds through the carcass of a tire. And it only takes a few pounds to seriously compromise the safety of your vehicle, and accelerate tire wear and fuel consumption.

Did you know?
  • Under-inflated tires can lower gas mileage by 0.5 percent for every 1 psi drop in pressure.
  • Running tires at 20% under inflation can reduce tire life by 50%.
  • According to the United States Department of Transportation, Americans alone waste over 5.4 million gallons of gasoline every day because of low tire inflation.
  • 9 million additional replacement tires per year are purchased as a result of premature wear from under inflation.
  • Tires run over 20% of total automotive ownership costs.
  • The United States produces over 275 million scrap tires every year.
  • 50% of all emergency road calls are in response to tire failures.
  • Over 85% of all tire failures are the result of low tire inflation.
  • 85% of all vehicles are driving on at least one under inflated tire.
  • It takes 7 gallons of crude oil to produce one car tire.
  • It takes 3.6 billion gallons of crude oil to produce tires for all of the cars in the U.S.
  • Every month, 3 out of 4 drivers wash their cars, while only one out of 7 checks their tire pressure.
  • The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimates that improperly inflated tires are the cause of approximately 23,000 accidents and 535 fatalities per year.

It's up to you.
In the past tire inflation maintenance was largely ignored by most motorists. Until this decade almost all vehicles required oil changes or other maintenance services every three months or 3,000 miles, whichever came first. All competent service facilities check a vehicle's tire inflation every time they perform an oil change or maintenance service. With no particular sense of urgency surrounding tire inflation, most consumers, if they thought about it at all, figured these routine services were enough to maintain their tire pressure. Recent advancements in engine technology, as well as overall quality improvements, have permitted vehicle manufacturers to extend the duration between required vehicle maintenance intervals. Some vehicles now only require an oil change, or any scheduled service, once a year. In other words, we are seeing our mechanics less, so the burden of maintaining our tire inflation has shifted to us, the motoring public.

How much money will TIM save you?
If you are a "typical" vehicle owner, you probably don't correct your tire pressure every month – over 85% of us don't. Letting it go just a few months can lead to severely diminished tire wear and fuel economy. According to industry experts, ignoring this simple procedure can cause your fuel economy to plummet by 10%, and your tire life can be reduced as much as 30%. With these figures in mind, use this calculator to help put a dollar figure to what TIM can do for your pocketbook.

What happened to the price of tires?!
Over the past decade or so, vehicle manufacturers have shifted to much more expensive low profile tires. Basically a low profile tire is one that has a short sidewall allowing for a larger diameter wheel without changing the overall diameter of the tire/wheel combination. The industry shift to low profile tires was driven by both advancements in vehicle performance and safety technology, and changing consumer tastes. Lower profile tires improve handling characteristics and increase stability in extreme driving conditions. They also allow for larger diameter wheels which, in turn, provide room for manufacturers to equip vehicles with larger brake assemblies. Finally, vehicle designers and, apparently, the general public like the look of larger wheels. And we better like it a lot, because the average price of tires for a new car has almost tripled in the past few years.
